It's reunion time in Edmonton, though even Ricky Ray isn't expecting the home side fans to be overly welcoming upon his return.
The Argonaut quarterback was acquired earlier this year in a surprising development for Northern Alberta's football fans, making his way to Eastern Canada a sure sign of the determination of the Argos to do all that they can this year to not only play host to the 100th Grey Cup but to be the home side on the field in late November.
The arrival of Ray, one of the marquee Quarterbacks of the CFL in Toronto was considered one of the most important of off season moves in the league, combined with the eastern migration of Henry Burris to Hamilton, the legendary gunslingers of the West have arrived in Southern Ontario to perhaps shift the balance of power in the league.
In Edmonton all eyes will be on Steven Jyles, at the moment, the designated starter for the Green and Gold, an opportunity to write his own records in a town where records seem permanently enshrined, though truth be told, the faithful aren't quite ready to sign on to the new look Eskies just yet.
Jyles came back to the Western Division in the Ricky Ray trade, taking up the challenge of bringing the Eskimo brand back to CFL glory, though even the most optimistic of Eskimo fans probably thinks it's going to be a slow process, not one that finds instant success.
The learning curve in Edmonton will be a steep one, the ghosts of past success still linger in the dressing room, most of them will be carrying the days of Ricky Ray, Jyles has the full support of his coach Kavis Reed, who is looking to banish the negative and focus on the positives.
The first step towards that goal comes today at Commonwealth Stadium.

CFL Game Day: Winnipeg at British Columbia (June 29, 2012)
The defending Grey Cup champion BC Lions look poised to pick up where they left off in November, good for football fans on the west coast, perhaps not so much for those on the other side of the Rockies.
The Lions, may have had a changing of the guard in the coaching ranks with Wally Buono making the permanent move off of the sidelines, bringing in defensive coordinator Mike Benevides as the new field boss, but other than that, the Lions for the most part are the same team that ruled the CFL from Labour Day on last year.
The season kicks off with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in town, the Big Blue a team that will find BC Place rather familiar, having been the last team on the field in the way of the Lions Grey Cup victory last November.
The result of that game, left more than a few disappointed souls to sit through a cold Manitoba winter with thoughts of opportunities lost. For the followers of the Bombers last years Grey Cup disappointment also can be viewed with an eye towards their Eastern Division rivals, two of which have strengthened their rosters significantly in the off season, suggesting that another Grey Cup berth will prove to be challenging for the Bombers.
The Lions this year, will have their first full season in their rejuvenated home, one of the signature stadiums in the CFL these days, the Bombers however will be returning to their old yard, the dream of opening up their new stadium at the University of Manitoba to be deferred for a year owing to construction delays.
BC will be hoping to celebrate their Grey Cup of 2011 through the year in the new one, the Bombers looking to send their old stadium off (again) with another Grey Cup run, it starts tonight, we'll see how the script plays out when we get to Toronto in late November.

The new look Hamilton Tiger Cats ( a rather extensive line up overhaul gives them the "new look" title this year) kicks off the finale to Ivor Wynne Stadium on Friday night with a visit by the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
The Riders face another challenging season, their Grey Cup appearance of a few years ago overshadowed by a rather disappointing 2011 campaign, turning around that spot of misery for Rider fans is job one in Regina, where moving backwards is not an option.
In Hamilton, they've assembled a rather impressive group to bring down the old yard, with Henry Burris at the controls of what could very well be one of the most exciting offensive squads to take to a CFL field this year.

CFL 2012 Regular Season: Week 1
The CFL kicks off the quest for the 100th Grey Cup on the Canada Day weekend, providing a number of changes that could see some shifting of power in both the East and West Divisions.
The season offers up a farewell to an ancient yard of memories in Hamilton and a return to one in Winnipeg, where delays have resulted in the Bombers retiring to Maroons Road for one more year after all.
The rivalry of Alberta seemingly has shifted to Southern Ontario, where Ricky Ray and Henry Burris hope to transplant the success of the marquee franchises of Edmonton and Calgary into the football success starved locales of Toronto and Hamilton. The Tiger Cats dipping into a variety of western fields to gobble up what could be the CFL's most impressive offence on paper heading into 2012/
The Als, Bombers and Riders seek to reverse their fall back year of 2011, the Stamps and Esks look to rebuild and rejuvenate taking the challenge to the BC Lions, who heading into the 2012 season still would be the team to beat, a solid lineup, a Grey Cup champion and looking just as dangerous for this season as they did in the last half of the last one.
In Ottawa, another season arrives without a team to cheer on in the national capital, but there too progress is being made, with movement forward on the rebuild of Lansdowne Park and the prospect of the CFL's return in two years, fingers crossed and all of that.
While perfect symmetry might have seen the 100th anniversary celebrations as the logical return season for Ottawa, the occasionally meandering ways of official approval and bureaucracy in the home town, didn't quite coincide with the local ownership groups ambitions.
Still with a shovel to come to the ground shortly one hopes, the plans for a CFL return is in place, for now however, CFL fans in Ottawa will have to find another team to cheer on in 2012.
They can start the audition process this weekend.

CFL 2012 Previews and Prognostications
The 100th celebration of Canadian Football kicks off this weekend, 100 years of the rouge, three downs and Grey Cup celebrations, to name a few of the fond remembrances of the game.
With the road to the Grey Cup leading to Toronto in November, this centennial offers much off the field as well as on it to grab the interest of football fans everywhere.
But in the end it's the product on the field that will hold the most interest and to that, the various previews and prognostications as season 100 gets set to get under way...
Twelve Men Season Preview
East
A changing of the guard in the CFL East may be in the works with the western migration of the Alberta gunslingers Henry Burris and Ricky Ray. Both Hamilton and Toronto made great strides in the off season, the Tiger Cats seeking to send out Ivor Wynne in style with a potentially Grey Cup roster. The Cats in particular seem to have imported the best of the West, returning Andy Fantuz to his home province and adding Sam Giguere to what could be the league's best receiving corps. Add into the mix one of the best minds in football in George Cortez and the Cats faithful will be singing Oskie Wee Wee in full throat for most of the year.
The Argos are hoping that Ricky Ray can do for the Argonauts what he did for the Eskimos provide consistency and style at the quarterback position, with a new coach in Scott Milanovich on the sidelines steeped in Montreal's winning tradition the Argos are looking to celebrate their Grey Cup hosting duties with a home date in the last week of November.
Winnipeg, which last was seen in the 2011 Grey Cup game finds itself looking eastward with concern as their division rivals retool, the Bombers found success in the late stages of the 2011 season, their opposition in the East has made significant changes that most likely will make the East much more competitive, not perhaps the best omen for head coach Paul LaPolice and Big Blue in 2012.
One suspects we should never underestimate where an Anthony Calvillo led team may finish, but there seems very much a shifting of the sands of time in Montreal this year. With the roster aging yet another year and a few key changes in the coaching ranks, the prospect of decline seems possible for the first time in a long time in the Alouettes camp. Marc Trestman probably knows that every dynasty eventually fades from view, 2012 could be the year that the mighty Als finally return to the pack, a pack that has made enough changes to their own line up to send notice that the Als days of domination may be done.

Their the defending CFL champions and by all accounts the league favourite to repeat in that title for 2012. The BC Lions who from Labour Day on in 2011 dominated the CFL, have simply reloaded for 2012, all be it with a few changes along the way.
Wally Buono moved himself into the GM's role with no doubt a plan in place for other management duties to come, shifting Defensive co-ordinator Mike Benevides into the big chair at the Surrey training facility. The Lions always known for their defensive strengths, made offence a key for the last half of 2011, Travis Lulay stepping into his starring role with style, his receiving group led by Geroy Simon always dangerous and by November of championship timbre.
In a division still in the midst of change, the Lions surely must be the favourite to not only move on to the Grey Cup, but still the favourite to repeat their feat of 2011.
The Eskimos are still in a rebuilding frame of mind, moving Ricky Ray east in one of the most interesting and perhaps surprising moves in a off season in recent years. Perhaps aware that the three prairie based teams are all in the midst of change, the Esks found the time right to change the dynamic of their squad, though not without more than a few raised eyebrows in Northern Alberta. Kavis Reed will have a challenge on his hands to regroup the Esks, success as always will depend on how they fare agains the cousins in the south.
The Esks provincial rivals in Calgary, have also moved in a different direction, the foundation of that shift laid in last season's waning months. John Hufnagel, steeped in CFL quarterbacking lore as he is felt that a change was needed so Henry Burris, gave way to a new starter Drew Tate and as always in those old west thrillers, the old gunslinger had to leave town to ply his trade, heading to Hamilton.
The Stamps are now fully in the hands of Tate, with changes in the backfield and receiving team, the Stampeders offence will evolve with Tate, whether that comes together enough to take on the Lions remains to be seen.
Saskatchewan as well is in the midst of a major shift, the disappointments of the last few years starting to settle in over the ever faithful in the province. Darian Durant saddled with the responsibility of reviving a Rider offence that last year struggled to say the least. Corey Chamblin takes the reins of the Riders in his first posting as a head coach with the Riders, it will be his battle plan that dictates if the Riders can return to dominance in the CFL West, first place may be a stretch, but with change in the wind in Alberta a quick start could very well give Rider fans hope for an enjoyable summer and fall.
