Gibson's Players of the Month (July 2012)

The monthly achievement reports are in and the reviews for four CFL Players are particularly impressive.

The Gibson's Monthly Award winners were announced this week, offering up the names of four CFL players who have performed to a high standard in the first four weeks of the 2012 campaign.

And while the start of the season had them worried in Hamilton, as July headed into August, things appeared to be back on track in Steeltown, so much so that two Ti Cats  picked up awards on the month.

Both Henry Burris and Chris Williams received the nod for their achievements over the first four weeks, joining them on the honour roll were J. C. Sherritt in Edmonton and Andrew Harris in British Columbia.

The full review of the Players of the month can be found below.

Offensive Player of the Month

Henry Burris - Hamilton Tiger Cats -- QB

With back to back player of the week honours and an impressive string of stats on the month, the Ti Cats QB is finding Hamilton much to  his liking, providing the kind of football that many remember from his days in Calgary.  With 122 of his 175 passes caught for over 1500 yards and 15 touchdowns on the scoreboard, Burris was perhaps the surest of bets for the monthly totals.

Defensive Player of the Month

J. C. Sherritt - Edmonton Eskimos -- LB

Like Burris, Sherritt is two time weekly award winner for July, found frequently in opposing the backfield of the opposing teams, Sherritt has compiled 41 tackles over the first month, a pace which could see him destroy the CFL record book in that category by the time November rolls around.

Special Teams Player of the Month

Chris Williams - Hamilton Tiger Cats -- KR

Found frequently on the CFL highlight reels through July, Williams has made the kick return one of the CFL's signature moments in a game. CFL kickers put the ball in his hands at their peril, once the afterburners kick in Williams could very well have covered over 100 yards in road runner like time. And yet July provided for still a learning curve for the Ti Cat returner, who famously apologized to one and all for his showboating on one particular return, which resulted in him losing one TD on the season after being hunted down before crossing the goal line. Still, one mistake aside it was a remarkable month for Williams.

Canadian Player of the Month

Andrew Harris - British Columbia Lions -- RB

The Lions offence have had their struggles to hit their stride, but the last week of July showcased just what kind of damage they can inflict when everyone is on the same page and performing at top speed. One of the key elements of that Lion offensive attack is running back Andrew Harris who has become the reliable ball handler for the Lions offence. With two weekly awards to date, he rounds out the top players of the month for July.
