The folks at TSN may have to find a new way to market the final game of the regular season tonight from BC Place, perhaps suggesting that it's a chance to see some of the "stars" of tomorrow.
That's what you have left when the schedule features a game where starters will be scarce and the back ups will jockey for places on next years depth chart.
The Lions having claimed first place a few weeks ago most likely will put some of their A team on the field to keep the rust off, but, lengthy playing time we imagine will be scarce as the Lions work out their game plan for the Western Final two weeks from now.
The Riders too will be playing the backups (one of whom took a rather circuitous path to BC Place tonight), their destiny providing a focus on Calgary next weekend and not the Lions tonight.
The only saving grace for TSN's ratings hopes, is, that it is the Riders playing, their fan base one of the most dedicated in the land would probably watch mid week scrimmages if TSN put them up on the screen.
The backup parade gets underway at BC Place at 7 PM, 10 back east for those with an empty PVR.

CFL Game Day: British Columbia at Calgary (Week Eighteen) October 26, 2012
It's not very often that a match up between the Lions and the Stamps is of absolutely no consequence, but that's the case tonight, as what normally would be the top game of the weekend instead will be nothing but a pads on practice for the two teams.
Sure, there's bragging rights and all of that, the Stamps perhaps a tad more motivated to avenge the loss a few weeks back in Vancouver, a loss that brought to an end their thoughts of a first place finish in the West this year.
But with the Lions holding court as the best of the league and the Stamps now focused on their Western Semi Final game in two weeks time, one wonders how much starters will see on what will be a frozen patch of turf at McMahon Stadium.
There are some interesting sidebars to the game tonight the running backs for both teams are among the best in the league, while the Lions GM of course has history with the Stamps, in recent years both have been the top teams of the division, solid franchises that have a blue print in place for others to follow.
Then there's the QB situation, Travis Lulay most likely will get further rest, Mike Reilly more than capable at directing the Leos offence while the starter recuperates.
Calgary on the other hand finds Drew Tate ready to report for duty after his lengthy convalescence over the season, however, Kevin Glenn has been the one responsible for keeping the Stamps playoff and Grey Cup ambitions alive, changing QB's at this time seems an unlikely strategy, though we imagine if he's ready, Tate will get some work tonight, if for no other reason than to shake off some of the rust.
There are any number of reasons to take in the game tonight, the competitive nature of the two teams, the quest of Jon Cornish to rewrite some record book entries and the thought that momentum into the playoffs is always key, so perhaps it may not be a no contact scrimmage after all.
It won't count for much in the playoff race, but messages late into the season are always important, keeping your team on track late in the season when the standings don't matter is always a challenge, it may be the biggest issue of the night for both Mike Benevides and John Hufnagel.

CFL Game Day: British Columbia at Hamilton (October 12)
The league leading British Columbia Lions, the team that best exemplifies consistency in the CFL this season heads into Hamilton tonight, set to take on a team in the Tiger Cats that are perhaps the poster children for baffling.
The Ti Cats have on alternate weeks looked like the team most likely to give the Lions a run for their money on Grey Cup Sunday or the team that can help make the Winnipeg Blue Bombers look like the team with a blue print for success.
On to many game days, the latter TiCat squad has taken to the field.
The most recent example of TiCat inconsistency came last week when the Cats offered up little in the way of resistance to the struggling Edmonton Eskimos, allowing the Eskies to break a winless streak that had stretched as far back as August.
With that loss, the Cats put their playoff hopes in peril, allowing the Eskimos to rekindle their own plans for playoff football, perhaps at the expense of the Cats through the CFL's crossover rule, where a team from the West with a better record can bump the third place Eastern team from the playoffs.
As it stands today, it would be the Cats looking from the outside at the CFL playoffs for 2012.
Clearly the need to get back on track and cobble together a string of wins is at hand, the problem is that this weekend Hamilton faces the CFL's most rounded football squad, equally strong on defence as well as offence, featuring a solid special teams game, there's not much for the Ti Cats to try and work on.
Best they can hope for perhaps, is that the Lions have a relapse as they did in Saskatchewan a few weeks back where they slept their way through the first half before getting into the game, a situation that didn't work out too well for the Leos, though they did make it close in the end.
We imagine there was a lesson learned in Regina two weeks ago, one that won't be forgotten as they Lions face the Cats tonight.

CFL Game Day: Calgary at British Columbia (October 6)
While not on the main course of the Thanksgiving Day banquet from the CFL this Monday, Saturday nights match up between the Stamps and Lions is very much the marquee game of week fifteen.
The Stamps have been nipping at the Lions heels all season long as they seek to replace the West Coasters atop the CFL West Standings, last weeks victory for Calgary over Edmonton moved the Stamps to just two points off the league leading pace of the Lions, a gap they can close to even with a victory at BC Place.
The Lions coming off a loss to Saskatchewan last week, will most likely not be in a very hospitable mood as they try to correct some of their first half flaws of last week that set the Riders up for their eventual victory.
British Columbia for the majority of the season has been the dominant squad in the CFL, a strong offensive game combined with a punishing defensive unit has propelled the Lions to their 9 and 4 record, their defense having given up the leagues fewest points at 249.
Yet, a few stumbles along the way have kept the Stamps within striking distance all season long and as the Thanksgiving weekend moves towards the big feast day of Monday, Calgary will be looking to gobble up yardage of their own and keep Travis off balance for as much of Saturday as they can. Calgary no doubt set to draw on the memories of July, when the Lions handled them with ease, Saturday night will provide Calgary with the first opportunity to settle that account that the Stamps have had since.
The showdown at BC Place will make for a reliable measuring stick for the Lions coaching staff, looking to see if the Lions can return to a full focus over sixty minutes, or if those lapses like last weekend provided for might prove to be more troublesome than previously thought.
With the playoffs looming large in November now, the opportunity to stem some of Calgary's confidence will be large for the Leos, they will wish to take advantage of the situation Saturday, otherwise the last few weeks of the 2012 season may be a bit more of a roller coaster ride than previously thought.

CFL Game Day: British Columbia at Saskatchewan (September 29)
Week fourteen of the CFL season comes to an end on Saturday evening in Regina, where the Saskatchewan Roughriders will seek to derail some of the BC Lions plans of western division domination.
The Riders looking to keep within striking distance of the Stamps and Lions will be hoping to add to last weeks success, by taking down the league leading Lions, a team which is currently on a 3 game winning streak and looking very much in control of its destiny.
The Lions arrive as one of the best rounded squads in the CFL this year, punishing on defence, explosive on offence and with special teams that can change the dynamic of a game in but seconds.
The Riders on the other hand have been a bit of an enigma this year, one game looking very much like a team with a solid plan for playoff ambitions, only to have it all come crashing down the very next week.
The home crowd played a huge factor in last weeks victory over Calgary, adding to the misery that their defence provided to Jon Cornish, clearly getting under his skin.
When it wasn't the fans getting on Cornish's nerves it was the Saskatchewan defensive unit doing the job, shutting down the Stamps and Cornish in particular, heeding the advice of head coach Cory Chamblin that jobs were on the line, they face just as hard a task Saturday as Travis Lulay and the Lions aerial circus and dominating ground game take to the field.
As if that isn't enough, the Lions defence has made it a priority all year to inflict as much punishment on opposing offensive units, big time and timely sacks or interceptions have provided for more than one turning point this season, the Lions taking pride in how their defensive units have provided for a league low 222 points against thus far.
Which brings us back to the Mosaic crowd, they could very well be the Riders most motivating factor, the knowledgeable fans of the Rider Nation truly add to the pressure points on opposing squads when they arrive at Mosaic, however when the home side falters, they aren't afraid to let them know they're disappointed.
The Riders will be hoping for a bit more of the former and a lot less of the latter when they take on the Lions to wrap the week for the CFL.

CFL Game Day, Saskatchewan at British Columbia (August 19)
The real test to see if the Saskatchewan Roughriders have learned anything over the last three weeks won't come until the fourth quarter, a period of time which has seen the Riders suffer meltdowns in three consecutive games now, a horror show of fifteen minutes that can turn a healthy lead into a nail biter of a loss in the blink of an eye.
For the British Columbia Lions the quickest way to make the fourth quarter moot would be to load up on the points in the first three, a situation that will leave the Riders heading back to a drawing board to cook up a new approach.
Much has been made of the spectacular ways that the Riders have managed to go from the ranks of the undefeated to a team on a skid, for the most part it's defensive shortcomings that pop up in glaring fashion at most inopportune times.
The Lions are heading into Sunday's game on a streak of their own, a more positive direction with wins in their last two games, the most recent one a defensive victory over the Argos, where the Lions dominated the Argo's QB Ricky Ray to the point of frustration, leaving Ray to ponder the worst performance since he joined the Double Blue while dodging oncoming Lion rushers.

I'ts a glimmer of hope for the Riders offensive line that is charged with keeping Darian Durant healthy and moving forward, considering the recent troubles scoring points may be the best insurance against the dreaded fourth quarter collapses.
To that end the Riders will take to the field at BC Place and look to cast aside a lingering ghost of late.

For the British Columbia Lions the quickest way to make the fourth quarter moot would be to load up on the points in the first three, a situation that will leave the Riders heading back to a drawing board to cook up a new approach.
Much has been made of the spectacular ways that the Riders have managed to go from the ranks of the undefeated to a team on a skid, for the most part it's defensive shortcomings that pop up in glaring fashion at most inopportune times.
The Lions are heading into Sunday's game on a streak of their own, a more positive direction with wins in their last two games, the most recent one a defensive victory over the Argos, where the Lions dominated the Argo's QB Ricky Ray to the point of frustration, leaving Ray to ponder the worst performance since he joined the Double Blue while dodging oncoming Lion rushers.

CFL Game Day: British Columbia at Toronto (August 6, 2012)
The long weekend comes to an end with the final of the week's two CFL matches showcasing the Lions and Argos, a chance to see if the Lions have indeed returned to their championship form after last weeks convincing victory over the Stamps.
For the home crowd, the wrap to week six will provide the Argos with another opportunity to put some distance between first place in the East and the pack, Toronto has been gaining confidence as each week moves forward in the CFL season, Ricky Ray in particular proving to be a difference maker in Double Blue as he finds his form with the Argos.
The visit by the Lions a very helpful measuring stick for head coach Scott Milanovich to see if his Argos improvement thus far is on track to battle the CFL's most rounded squad.
The Lions defensive play has been fairly strong all season so far, the offence taking a bit longer to shake off the rust of the off season, though the indications from last weekend in Calgary is that Travis Lulay may finally have sorted out the moving parts for the Lions offensive play.
With a bye week beckoning, both the Argos and Lions will be looking to head into their week off on a winning note.

CFL Game Day: British Columbia at Saskatchewan (July 14, 2012)
Two undefeated teams, early as the season is, take to the field in Regina today as the British Columbia Lions seek to keep their roll going taking on the rejuvenated Saskatchewan Roughriders.
The Riders, who entered the season with more than a few questions to answer for their fans, have had a rather successful couple of weeks to open the season, a resounding thumping of the Tiger Cats on the road and a less than thumping victory over the Eskimos last week, still when November comes about the only thing people will remember is the four points in their favour in the standings.
The Lions may provide a better measuring stick for the Riders heading into week three, the Eskimos clearly had a bad week last weekend, taking their frustrations out on the Bombers last night. A signal to their neighbours in the east that perhaps it's best not to plan victory parades just yet.
Saskatchewan for its part will wish to show the home side that the offence they watched on television in week one will be making an appearance at Mosaic this year. The task however may be a tough one going up against the always punishing BC Lions defence which has had a rather impressive debut to the 2012 season.
Add into the mix the potentially explosive Lions offence and the defending Grey Cup chance could be considered the favourite to exit Mosaic still holding that undefeated status.
The Lions have a vast number of resources for putting points on the board, a strong running game, sure handed and fleet receivers and steady leadership with Travis Lulay at the helm of the offensive unit, they all combine to make a sturdy test for the Riders defensive corps today.
