Gibson's Players of the Week (Week Sixteen) October 16, 2012

It was Shea Emry weekend in the CFL as the Montreal Alouettes linebacker made more than his presence known to Jarious Jackson and the Toronto Argonauts offensive unit. Emry's work on Sunday in the Argso/Als showdown at Rogers Centre so captivated the Gibson's Panel that they have awarded him two of their four Gibson's on the week.

With four tackles, one sack and pick six on the day, Emry collects both the Defensive Player of the Week and Top Canadian of the week.

Hugh Charles and Grant Shaw broke the Emry day of celebration, Charles mainly because he's on the offensive side of the field when Emry is taking a break from action, Grant Shaw picks up the weeks award for Special teams for his work in the weekend match up with Saskatchewan.

Offensive Player of the Week

Hugh Charles, Edmonton Eskimos RB

Charles picks up his first Gibson's of the year on the pace of his performance of Saturday in a must win situation for his Edmonton Eskimos. with 17 carries and a career high total of 157 yards rushing, Charles led the Eskimo charge towards the playoffs. His running game left the Riders on the chase for most of the game, a good portion of that in the second half where he galloped for 119 of his 157 yards. A trot that led right up to the Gibson's podium for week sixteen.

Defensive Player of the Month and Top Canadian

Shea Emry, Montreal Alouettes,  LB

It was the Shea Emry show in Toronto on Sunday, as the Alouettes leading linebacker once again imposed his will on the Argonaut offensive unit. Emry added four tackles to his tackle count giving him a team leading 77 tackles and notched up the sack level by one more to seven on the season, one of the more consistent of players on an Alouette defensive unit that has struggled through the season. His work on Sunday in the important Eastern showdown was so impressive that the Gibson's panel tapped him for a double dip on the weekend with both Defensive and Top Canadian honours going his way.

Special Teams

Grant Shaw Edmonton Eskimos, K

A thirteen point performance by Grant Shaw, the Eskimos kicking specialist helped propel the Eskimos further along their path to a playoff position, with three of four field goal attempts good and an additional 4 single points connected on, Shaw gets the nod as the Special Teams Player of the week in the Eskimos victory over the Riders.
